Basic Information
The
CPS 2000 was the first ever CPS water gun to be released by Larami.
Most people at the time were just used to all the legendery air
pressure models, although in Summer 1996 that was about to change,
revolutionising the Super Soaker world with massive power from a stock
gun that may never be seen again. Rumours had it that this gun was so
powerful some kid got a serious eye injury at point blank range.
Larami were taken to court and they won their case due to their
powerful lawyers, although they had to reduce the guns power to avoid
any other trouble. It is unknown as to what happened that made
measures to this gun to be toned down in power as well as other guns
that followed this. Now this gun is a part of Super Soaker history
with many people wanting it.
To date, 2 versions of this gun exist. I'll now go through them.
Mark
1 (Mk1) - This was the first version
released which was more powerful released in 1996. The rubber in the
pressure chamber was bigger making it have more power and a greater
velocity. Originally people said that this version shot 3-5 feet
further than the second version if it released, although there have
been mixed findings on this. The Mk1 also had a longer pressure gauge
on it than its secong version too. Some also say its shot time was a
tad bit longer. Some Mk1 models had the "Air Pressure" logo written on
its sticker, although some didn't (the one being reviewed here says
"Constant Pressure" on it). This version was a bit less durable than
its second version, with parts like the pump, trigger and even its
pressure chamber being at risk of malfunctioning if not treated
properly.
Mark
2 (Mk2) - The second version which was released to replace the first in
1997. It was less powerful. The pressure gauge was shorter. Its
rubber pressure chamber wasn't as thick either. Shot time was a tad
shorter than its previous version. Some say that its range was less
than its previous version, although some say it gets more, at present
this hasn't really been properly proved yet. Durability was better on
this gun, it was stronger and could take more (not that I suggest you
try and wreck it to find out).
The Gun
The
CPS 2000 is pretty big and long. Just what you need for a gun like
this. It looks very intimidating and the grey mixed in with the purple
makes it look very good. The whole way this gun is structured makes it
look like a very cool and fearsome long range rifle (which it is in
terms of Super Soakers).
The
gun stores a lot of water at just over 100oz. The way the gun is built
this is a good amount of water. Some people may think that the gun
would be heavy or is heavy with the amount of water it holds. In my
opinion I don't really find it all that heavy, its actually pretty easy
to carry fully loaded. Unless you are a little kid that is. If you
are, I suggest a smaller Super Soaker until you grow into this. This
gun holds way more water than a lot of other guns out there, it holds
about the same amount as the CPS 1500, 1700 and 2500. It holds more
than a lot of the new guns out today and is put to way better use
overall.
Holding
the gun feels good. Its not the most comfortable but its not really
bad. The gun feels pretty solid and durable when holding, probably
able to take a few bashes. The strap is different from standard Super
Soaker straps on this. It is nylon so its much more comfortable than
the standard Super Soaker straps. The plastic clips on the strap of
the gun are also built better making them stay on much easier unlike
the standard Super Soaker straps that followed on other CPS guns where
the plastic clips had a much better chance of slipping off in the
middle of a battle.
The
firing chamber of this gun is a good size at 24oz. Despite how big it
is, if your too trigger happy with the gun then the gun will drain away
its water at a very fast rate. Becuase of this large firing chamber
though, the guns performs very well. One thing to watch out for on the
Mk1 (the one being reviewed) is that the firing chamber is a bit
fragile. There have been a few reports on the net of CPS 2000 Mk1
rubber bladder bursting from stress and rapid use in battles, so be
careful, you wouldn't want to bust a gun that is worth $200 or more now
would you?
The
pump of this gun is very good and durable. It is tracked which means
that it can't snap like regular pumps seen on guns like the CPS 1000,
1200 .etc. One thing that some people is that the pump after a while
will break and snap and will need a bolt to fix and make it work
again. Since this has never happened to mine, and I have had it while,
I cannot confirm this. The grip of the pump is nice and comfortable
and slides along its rail nicely. The pump draws a good amount of
water in per stroke, it could be a bit more but the good thing is that
it takes about as long to pump up as guns around it like the CPS 1500,
1700, 2500 .etc. So it doesn't really lose out. When running a bit
low on water it is best to point the gun down slightly so the best
amount of water is sucked in more often.
The
guns trigger feels comfortable with no problems pulling it. It does
however, feel a bit flimsy to me when pulling it and feels like it
might snap, although this hasn't happened yet. The grip area around
the trigger is also very good being pretty comfortable with no stress
on the hand.
The
gun also has a pressure gauge using the firing chamber. There is a red line
on the end of the chamber that when when you pump goes nearer to the
end of the transparent plastic you can see it through. This is very
well done, as you can determine how much water you have depending on
the situation you are in. It also helps you not overpumping in turn
end up breaking something.
The
gun has one nozzle. This makes the gun not very flexible. This nozzle
is also very big so this isn't the best gun for conserving water in a
battle. The nozzle is rated at about 25x which is very big. The use
of this was a long range, soaking blast. It did just that.
Performance
This
gun totally outpowers every stock gun made. The blast this thing gives
is very powerful and even recoils, so hold it steadily. The output is
huge and is bound to soak someone in one shot if you hit them. The
range of this is very good too, just getting about 50 feet or more, so
this would make an excellent weapon for long range sharpshooting (or as
some people call it sniping). The blast of water could probably stun
opponents who have not been hit with blasts such as this before.
Whatever you do, don't aim this at someones face, which is why this
version may have been discontined becuase of an incident like this.
The flexiblility on this isn't the best since its only got one big
nozzle which only shoots for a second.
Battle Endurance & Tactics
How
long you will last with this depends entirely on you. If you get too
trigger happy you aren't going to last very long at all at the rate the
CPS drains it water. There are other big CPS blasters that other
people use which offer a flexibility of nozzle settings which means
they can last longer than you can depending on how you use your gun and
how they use theirs. Thankfully this gets a good amount of shots per
tank and it gets more per tank than guns including the CPS 1000, 1200,
1500 .etc. This doesn't mean to say that you can go crazy wasting your
water supply, you still must be cautious. I wouldn't use this gun too
frantically becuase of what I said earlier about this versions firing
chamber being fragile from stress and heavy use which may burst the
rubber bladder. An experienced user with a CPS 2000 can last fairly
long in battles.
If
this is your only weapon to use in battle, I'd think about conserving
water and not use it all at once. Although you have range and power to
your advantage. Pumping will take a while in battles and becuase you
may have trouble with people with smaller blasters firing at you, it
might be best to have a backup gun with you or somebody who will cover
you while you reload if your working as a team and tactics come into
play. Doing tap shots also helps since you can still hit opponents and
soak them but still not drain up all your water so quickly. Quickly
pumping after each tap shot will also make sure you have enough water
in the firng chamber to fire at someone, the last thing you want is
have a great shot ready but you haven't pumped it enough for a good
shot, which will then leave you vulnerable. Its always best to make
sure.
Fighting
against a CPS 2000 there are ways of giving the user a hard time. Try
to make the user waste water. You could do this by either dodging shots
(you'll need good reflexes), or you if you know how far it shoots on
your battlefield then you can just stay out of range of the user shots
making them waste more water. Use every opportunity possible, catch
and shoot the user when they are not looking. If they happen to run
out and re-pump, take advantage of that before they are able to bring
out one of their backup guns or get someone to defend while
re-pumping. Use your steath and agility skills to keep the user on
their toes.
Overall
The
CPS 2000 is a very good gun that we will all remember. It
revolutionised Super Soakers, without it we may not have seen other
great guns that followed it like the CPS 1000, 1500, 2500 .etc. Its
power was so great we may not ever see something as powerful again.
While it may only have one nozzle setting, and it might be a bit
fragile, it is still a very good gun to have in your armoury. Used
right in battles it can really be good and very fun to use. Its great
just as a weapon to be mess around with like on family parties or
something too. With very good looks as well so you can battle in
style. You can take on probably nearly all the stock soakers made, it
just depends how well you use it. You may have a few problems with the
high capacity backpack guns and the Speed Loader guns (which are no
longer made), that's pretty much what you should worry about, although
most people you know probably won't have these or just have a few.
I
recommend getting one if you are willing to pay the price for one. Its
best to search for one in Winter, since prices go down as not as many
people are interested. I was lucky to get mine early last year when
Summer was starting for a very good price. Hopefully you will get
lucky on one. I suggest looking for one. If you see one, buy it!
Pros
+Huge power and long range +Large output +Looks very cool and intimidating +Nice colours +Tracked pump +Pretty good build +Good reservoir and firing chamber volume +Srong strap
Cons
-Drains resources fast if not careful -Weak trigger -Fragile firing chamber -Not very flexible in terms of nozzles
