Basic Information

The Speed Loader Power Surge 2500 is another gun that was made by the great W3 (Wild Water Weapons) and was I think the second biggest of the line behind the Power Surge 3000.  This gun has the power to easily outperform and outsoak a lot of other Super Soakers made around it.  Sadly though, as mentioned in the Speed Loader 1000 Review, W3 were put out of business by Super Soaker for using CPS technology, which instead of taking that away from them took away their quick fill technology in which Super Soaker copied them for putting the company out of business.  The Speed Loader 2500 while not being very well known, has made a fairly large impact in the water gun world, being brought to its glory from certain people who have had the pleasure to handle one.

The Gun

The Speed Loader Power Surge 2500 is a strange yet futuristically cool looking gun.  With a mostly light blue body mixed in with yellow and red.  It looks intimidating in a strange sort of way, mind you, it is quite a unique gun to look at yet being pretty simple.  Its shape doesn't really resemble anything, just something that's different really.

The firing chamber is basically the reservoir on this gun since it relies on the quick fill device to pressurize it and fill it up.  It holds around near two litres of water (pretty much the same as a Splashzooka).  This is a good amount of water, however with its large output there is much more chance of running dry when compared to larger CPS blasters.

While this gun is one of the bigger Speed Loaders made, it still feels good to hold and is easy and comfortable to use.  What makes this all even better is that a strap is also included on this gun spreading out the balance nicely.  Like all Speed Loaders pretty much this gun is built to last and feels so well built and I can't see any possible weak point, of course I'm not going to smash the thing to find out.

This gun has no pump as mentioned a bit before.  The idea of Speed Loader (hence the name) is the fact you don't pump, you just plug the gun to the hose connection for a few seconds, and when its full your ready to go and blast until the last drop.  This has the advantage that while everyone else pumps you can just soak them.  However it means to work you need to be near the quick fill device, as if your not then the gun is useless.

The triggers on the gun are built very well and simple and are strong showing no signs of snapping at all.  The back trigger for the stream nozzle is fine, however the front trigger which activates the bottom hidden nozzle is rather loose and a little floppy, which makes the hidden nozzle guard not get fully covered unless you fully push the trigger forward.  Both are easy to pull and in some ways are a little sensitive, although this isn't really much of a con and doesn't really flaw the gun performance wise, just be more lighter on these two triggers.

The Speed Loader Power Surge 2500 has two nozzle settings.  The top setting is around 4x size and is basically the main long range stream nozzle and also conservation nozzle.  The bottom setting which is hidden by the second trigger guard is around 8x in size and is more of a fan/riot style of nozzle setting which covers a wider area that achieves less range, uses more water and lasts for less.  The main purpose is to do close range soaking, which it does very well.  Another great thing about this gun, is that if your feeling relentless, then you can activate both nozzles and create complete soaking carnage on your opponents, however beware you drain water fast, still looks cool though.

The gun even has a little pressure gauge on the other side which is like on guns like the CPS 2000, 2500, 3000, 3200 and 4100 is on the end of the firing chamber, only this time its on a quick fill gun.  It also has a flip up target sight, while serving more of a novelty/gimmick to the gun, its still a nice little feature and actually works ok in some ways.

Performance

The Speed Loader Power Surge 2500 performs very well and achieves a very good flexible range due its nozzle settings for different uses.  The top nozzle for long range soaking, and the bottom for more powerful close range full covering.  Its power and soakage can take on large CPS blasters like the CPS 1000, 1200, 2100 and even the 4100.  The gun also has flexible ranges which max out at around 37 feet.  This might not be as high as you think for a gun this big, however from the Speed Loader guns I've used like this range isn't great but its not bad either, nothing special.  However despite this, at least you've got drenching nozzles which do their job, no doubt.  One problem the Speed Loader Power Surge does have (at least on mine) is that once filled, it tends to leak water around where the bottom hidden nozzle is, and it slowly doesn't stop getting you a little wet as water trickles down and drops.  This is a little bit of a problem, however while it gets you wet a bit, your opponent is going to get far wetter.  Nothings perfect I guess.

Battle Endurance & Tactics

This gun while having power and output combined with decent range, doesn't have much of a water supply when compared to larger CPS blasters like the CPS 1500 and above.  This makes conserving a must in any battle despite being able to take on smaller CPS guns.  What also doesn't help is that this gun relies on its quick fill device attached to a hose, so if the battle you are in doesn't allow using quick fill devices, then this gun is useless.  Even if you are allowed, then you still need to conserve as much as possible with it as with the large nozzle sizes it drinks up its water quickly if you are too trigger happy.  It might actually be best if you either brough some backup along to cover you if running low, or just bringing a good sidearm (however I don't really like duel weilding) to help its chances in a battle if it is large scaled one with lots of heavy guns as well as smaller ones to fight off.  Although in free for all just random fun soakfests this doesn't really apply.  Another good thing you can use the Speed Loader Power Surge 2500 for is base defense as since you are right next to a source of water via the quick fill device it will make it hard for opponents to pass, it also doesn't take long to fully charge up the gun either so you'll be blasting away a lot very fast.  However while refilling also have some backup with you to cover you still, otherwise you don't exactly want opponents running straight past you.

Using this gun you can be very offensive, however you risk a chance of running dry quickly.  Conserving and tap shotting are essential in large battles to stay alive.  You may want to stay fairly close to your quick fill station as it won't take long for this gun to run out, and if your far away from it you stand a long and dangerous journey back to refill, with chances of someone or groups with larger guns waiting to get you, as well as smaller gun interruptions that will make things annoying.  Using this for one hit kill missions would be quite a big risk, while having the power and soakage as well as fair range to deliver, the fact is that it basically tires itself out, once it runs out there's no momentum left.  I guess you could say this about every gun, however this is a quick fill gun so its a little different in my view.  For just plain out fun soakfests (my favourite) this thing will soak instantly and will make your opponents run.  Also your opponents are going to have a very hard time if your using it for base with backup.

Fighting against this gun is hard if your close to it and your playing in pretty enclosed areas.  It packs a very soaking surprise and can outsoak a lot of guns.  However even if your fighting in a soakfest or a larger scaled more game styled tactical battle, get a weapon like a CPS 1500 or some powerful (preferably a CPS soaker) gun which doesn't use quick fill you can use it to your advantage if your fighting it on the field.  You can conserve more and use your ability to be sneaky and dodge shots making it run out of water faster due to its shorter supply that it eats away.  If your entering someones base though to take it over and they are armed with one of these then your going to need a pretty heavy amount of buddies to overcome its soakage and power at a close range.

Overall

The Speed Loader Power Surge 2500 despite its problems, is a very good gun and is able to outsoak a lot of guns made from the past and probably all guns made today.  Very simple and funky design yet still with great performance.  Once again though its not very well known and even though there is a bit more about this gun on the web than most other Speed Loaders, they are still pretty undiscovered.  Lots of glory that not many people know of.  Great for messing around with and a fearsome weapon to use, it will provide a lot of fun and puts a lot of other Super Soakers in the dark.

If you see one of these, then I suggest you buy it, you won't regret it.  Its one of the best if not the best non Super Soaker guns made no comment.  Since it was also released at the time Super Soaker were at their near very best you can't go wrong, as this gun pretty much lives up to that at the time.  Another great thing is that most of the time they don't go for very much due to the fact they are badly listed and most people think that since its not Super Soaker it gets ignored.  Even better is that they go for barely anything and are mostly cheaper than all the new mostly gimmicky Super Soakers that are underpowered.  Don't hesitate to buy one if you have the chance, or even any Speed Loader gun, just remember to make sure it comes with its quick fill device otherwise you won't be able to use it.
